Top 5 Must Haves for the Rainy Season

Hi Everyone!

The rainy season is definitely upon us, here in the Philippines. While there are still days when it’s hot and sunny, the late afternoons to evenings are usually either gloomy, or wet – with the rains ranging from a drizzle to torrential rain.

With that, whats a girl to do? In this post I talk about my Top 5 Must Haves for the Rainy Season. These will help you get through the wet season.

Rainy Days

1. Umbrella

Okay, this one’s a no brainer. Always have an umbrella on hand and ready for the rain. Even if it doesn’t look like it’s going to rain, better to be safe than sorry. Unless you’d rather run the risk of being stranded somewhere because it’s raining hard. Besides, an umbrella is great to have with you even if it’s a sunny day! You can choose to grab a fold-able umbrella that you can easily take anywhere with you for convenience, or just a regular umbrella which is sturdier and usually bigger for more protection from the rain.

2. Waterproof (lightweight) Jacket
Sometimes with heavy rain and strong winds, an umbrella is simply not enough. The wind blows the rain into your clothes, resulting in your person being completely drenched. No one wants that, and the feeling of being cold and wet is… well sad, and opens the possibility of getting sick. Keep a lightweight waterproof jacket with you in case of such emergencies! I suggest a lightweight one so that’s easy to bring around with you and won’t take up too much space in your bag. It’s also easier to wear and won’t weigh you down. The point of this type of outerwear is to keep you dry, similar to a raincoat but easier to wear (just my opinion).
3. Rubber Rain Boots/Plastic Shoe Cover

Flash floods are of no surprise to us anymore. Save your feet (and shoes!) from getting wet, dirty and possibly ruined by using a pair of rubber boots to get through that flood. If you’re not sure about the weather and it’s too much hassle to lug around a pair of heavy rain boots for ‘just in case’, try looking for a plastic shoe cover you can place around the shoes you’re already wearing. Something similar to the one below:
I actually own a shoe cover like this. I got mine online via Shopee, from this store. Picture taken from the store as well. It”s very very useful and easy to bring!
4. Waterproof Bag

You’ve got your umbrella to shield from the rain. You have your jacket and shoe covers/boots to keep your clothes dry. What about your bag and the things inside? More likely your bag or at least a portion of it will get drenched somehow and because of that, your things also stand a chance of getting wet or destroyed. I suggest picking yourself up a waterproof bag! That way, you can stop worrying about ruining your bag or getting any important papers, gadgets, etc wet. There are a number of great places to get water resistant or waterproof bags, but if you’re looking for an affordable option – my friend and I also sell backpacks and sling bags that are waterproof 🙂 Check out our shop here for designs on hand and for pre-order, as well as other things we sell.

5. Rubber sandals or leather boots

In connection with number 3, if in case you don’t want to bring anything extra for your feet but want to wear shoes that are good for the rain, I suggest investing in a nice pair of good leather ankle boots (preferably flat), or for a more affordable option – rubber sandals.  Both boots and sandals would also be able to withstand the water and dirt without getting damaged, and are easy to clean. Obviously the boots would also keep your feet nice and dry while walking, which is a big plus – but with sandals you will be able to easily clean and dry your feet, then slip back into your shoes like nothing happened. Both are great pairs of shoes to have: easy to walk in, fashionable and also work in wet and dry weather!

(I personally bought my flat ankle boots from H&M and my rubber sandals from SM Department Store)

These are just some of the things that most important for the rainy season. What else can you not live without during this time of year? Let me know in the comments below! Thank you for reading!
