How to: Clean your Makeup Brushes (using Etude House brush cleaners)

For spot cleaning, I simply spray the brush with the Puff and Brush Mist and wipe it using back and forth motions on a clean towel or tissue (I suggest if using a tissue to use one of the thick variety, since thinner ones will disintegrate).

For deep cleaning, I pour some of the Brush Shower Cleaner into a small bowl or container. With smaller brushes like eye shadow and lip brushes, it works to swirl them around in the container, squeeze out the excess and gently work the cleaner in the brush. Afterwards, rise gently with water.

However, I find this poses a problem with my thicker face and blush brushes – as the brush just absorbs most, if not all of the cleaner in one dip! I think the cleaner’s viscosity might be the reason, as it’s a very thick solution. Squeezing out the excess cleaner out of the brush, if your brush is really really dirty may be a bit gross and also wastes a lot of product. You can always squeeze the excess back in the bowl to not waste it, but really it’s a bit hard to work with if there’s a lot of makeup mixed in.

My alternative is to dilute the cleaner with some water so that the brush doesn’t completely absorb the cleaner. It’s also less gross to look at in the bowl and easier to work with as the water works to thin out the makeup and cleaner in the bowl. It also lessens wasted cleaner. Don’t forget to work the watered down cleaner into your brush and rinse after. Repeat as needed until your brush no longer has traces of makeup when you rinse. Note: If the water and cleaner solution starts to really get dirty, throw it out and make a new solution. This will happen depending on the number of brushes you’re washing and how dirty they are.
